About
Black Dog & Co was founded by Sophie, an economics and law graduate with a background in education and a long-standing interest in the financial challenges facing small businesses and sole traders. Black Dog was inspired by Dizzy, my ever faithful companion.
Having spent years teaching maths and economics, I understand that numbers can feel overwhelming — and that confidence with figures rarely comes naturally. Whether working with a teenager struggling with algebra or a business owner staring at a profit and loss statement they don't fully understand, the challenge is often the same: turning something that feels complicated into something that makes sense.
That's the approach I bring to Black Dog & Co. Financial literacy — genuinely understanding what your numbers mean and what to do about them — sits at the heart of everything I do. Not just keeping accurate records, but making sure you actually understand them.
I believe small businesses deserve the same quality of financial support as larger ones — without the corporate fees, the jargon, or the sense that you're too small to matter.
All services are delivered personally by me. There are no junior staff, no outsourced work, and no handoffs. When you work with Black Dog & Co, you work with the same person every time — someone who knows your business, remembers your circumstances, and is genuinely invested in helping you move forward.
If that sounds like the kind of support you've been looking for, I'd love to hear from you.
