Hi, I'm Sophie — the person behind Black Dog & Co.
Running a small business means juggling customers, costs, paperwork and deadlines. My job is to make the financial side feel organised and understandable.
I set up Black Dog & Co to keep your books straight, your HMRC filing on time and your numbers useful — without jargon or unnecessary meetings.
The name comes from Dizzy, my black dog and constant companion — she's walked every step beside me, even down the aisle at my wedding.
Why I do this
My Economics degree from the University of Exeter, together with more than ten years in education, taught me how to analyse figures and explain complicated ideas clearly without losing accuracy.
I hold MICB status with the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, the professional body for bookkeepers in the UK. Black Dog & Co holds ICB Practice Licence No. 487086, and I take my ongoing professional development seriously.
That combination of Economics, education and professional bookkeeping means I do more than process transactions. I check the records carefully, explain what the figures mean and flag anything that needs attention.

Black Dog & Co is based in Bournemouth, Dorset, and works remotely with self-employed clients wherever they're based — everything's done through modern cloud software, so location isn't a barrier.
